Horrors
Horrors are many-legged, blind or many-eyed creatures that live in the Mist. Their white, leathery skin acts as near-perfect camouflage within the misty conditions that they inhabit, though should they find themselves outside of their preferred environment they are easily spotted.
Origin¶
It is unknown where exactly horrors originate. Their appearance on both Osera and Hesperon suggests that they likely existed on Halcyon before it was torn in twain. Their as-of-yet unrecorded presence on Zinnabar further suggests that they are a phenomenon restricted by geography.
Biology¶
The sages of the Seventh Sanctum have studied horrors for centuries but have very little to show for it: Captured horrors quickly 'wilt' without access to fresh Mist, which they seem to 'breathe' through their skin. It is assumed that horrors require the mist to survive, as they often become catatonic outside of it, though the precise time it takes for a horror to achieve this state varies. A horror has never been seen to reproduce, and besides their limbs do not seem to have appendages suitable for reproduction.
Variants¶
Some horrors: - have more limbs than others, though the usual number is six. - are many-eyed, though many more seem entirely blind. - have a carapace-like armoured hide, able to resist spear-thrusts and arrows - are bulbous in appearance, and are likely egg-hatching (though this has not been observed) - have a human-like silhouette attached to a longer, worm-like body, which they use to lure unsuspecting and helpful people further into the mist, or into pits - have scythe-like appendages on their forelimbs, able to cut into heavy armour
