Arcanum
The written language of the Mycean and Cenerian peoples, often equated with magic due to its possibility in awakening the powers of Echoes. Arcanum can, under the right conditions, uphold reality, impose a new reality, and sometimes even re-write the fabric of reality altogether. Arcanum's power has five stages: - Recording the already-true. Ledger of grain that's in the granary. Deed for land held by the named party. Merchant stock. - Witnessing the agreed. A contract both parties consented to. A judgment where facts aren't in dispute. - Imposing the disputed. A binding on someone who doesn't consent but is named. A judgment cast over the protests of the accused. - Establishing the new. A law that didn't exist. A boundary not agreed to. A truth the world hadn't acknowledged. - Altering the world. Moving mountains. Undoing cities. Redirecting rivers. Raising the dead.
The Sect of Pyos believes Arcanum was handed down by Pyos as a further gift when he founded Mycea, and is the very essence of the god since it has the power to compel oaths.
The Sect of Illumination greatly distrusts Arcanum (and all written word), preferring instead to maintain their beliefs orally and in song.
The Seventh Sanctum makes much use of Arcanum, using it as a basis for many of their spells but also as a general written language for recording history and scientific observations.
